Since summer finally decided to show itself this weekend we decided to pack up our stuff and head outside for a little adventure. After a bit of research online courtesy of Dog Friendly Peak District we decided to go to Black Rocks near Cromford as we liked the sound of the ‘off leash’ friendly walk. Let’s face it, it is less fun for the dog if they have to stay on the lead right?!
I won’t lie we got a tiny bit lost on the way, well we thought we did, turns out where we parked was fine we had just wandered the wrong way from the car park. We ended up parking in the National Stone Centre car park and joining the High Peak Trail. When we finally worked out which way to go it was only a short walk before you reach Black Rock. The High Peak Trail was a good walk however I wouldn’t recommend it too much for dog walks, not only is it a straight line so you would have to judge how far to walk keeping in mind you had to walk back, but it was also heavily populated with walkers and bikers. People walking I can deal with, but people whizzing downhill at great speeds on a bike made me a bit wary.
Black Rock was great though, as promised online, once we left the main path we were able to let Hendrix off lead to explore. We only saw one other person on our walk around. The trail we followed went around in a big circle so we couldn’t get lost.
Here are some photos from when Hendrix was feeling photogenic (A lot of them were of his bum as he strolled on ahead):
Overall we had a brilliant day, the weather was glorious (we made sure to take plenty of water and try to keep to the shade) and Hendrix had a great time exploring. I am sure there is plenty more to see, I think a bit further up there is a canal but we will save that until another day.
